I believe those of us who spend time playing video games do so for the experiences. Whatever elements we brave in a game’s landscape or its infrastructure, the end goal is to connect with what the game is presenting. For one boy, this event turns into something majestic.
I came across this video, courtesy of a tweet by Kellee Santiago – Co-Founder and current President of thatgamecompany. Flower asks players to become the wind and affect change over a dreary land in need of a positive face-lift. For me, it evoked emotions of regret, sadness, hope and triumph. This boy, whatever the totality of his emotional connections, literally became the wind! For thatgamecompany, its purpose and that of a video game (according to the dev.), is to evoke an emotion in a player. I can definitely state that this video highlights that ambition. This beautiful gameplay displays the gaming experience in its purest form.
It would seem nothing can prevent this gamer from enjoying the experience Flower provides! I am taken aback by his engrossing and beautiful gameplay. Clearly he doesn’t fall short of what Flower and thatgamecompany seek to achieve. “This kid exhibits emotions that remind me why I’m in the games industry” stated Kellee Santiago. This child reminds me why I continue to play and write about video games: sharing awesome moments like this.
